In Memoriam – Patrick James Scully, 9-27-2018

Readers and local Everett residents, it is with a sad heart that we tell you that the publisher of The Everett Stimulus, Patrick Scully, passed away on 9/27/18 after a short illness.

I came to know Patrick well after college, although both being Syracuse alumni created a wonderful bond to build on.  But what most bound us together was our share interest in politics, the media and sports.  For those of you who knew Patrick, there was not a conversation that didn’t veer towards his beloved Sox or Bruins at some point, even if you were discussing the finer points of a policy or legislative tactic.

I met Patrick while working on a campaign.  His energy and wit could not be matched.  I am still processing this loss but want the people of Everett to know how much he spoke of your town and how he felt adopted by it and captivated by its possibilities.  He spoke to me of getting more involved, being a part of the growth and rebirth a New England town.  The Stimulus and his companion site The Hanging Shad will be retired soon, but I hope the efforts he started to create good, clear and fair dialogue about local politics lives on and inspires others to take up the charge.

He will be missed and I can’t help thinking how excited he would be as we run up to another election.  I hope he is somewhere today skating by all of us, banging up against those boards and punching another one into the net.  He deserves that freedom again, he deserves to be free of pain and real world obstacles.  Know that he loved your town and Boston and all things New England, and when you see a puck drop at a B’s game or that first pitch this week in the Series, know he is watching with a smile and a good critique of every move made.  He lived the SU motto, “Suos Cultores Scienta Coronatia” – Knowledge Crowns those who Seek Her…

Kelly Libby has setup a Red Sox Foundation page to donate in Patrick’s name.  Please let’s remember him with your support.

Goodbye brother, I will miss our late night chats and you putting up with my useless rants about my Mets.
